Survey Results
127 people completed the all-island survey to determine the most important issues for islanders. The top 4 issues are roads, fire/emergency response, derelict vehicles, and waste management/illegal dumping. DIA will be tackling the roads issue and fire/emergency response. To take a look at the survey responses, including all of the open-ended question answers, please go the DIA website HERE, and scroll down to the Survey Results button on the home page. Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey!

OPALCO
DIA will be conducting a simple survey to collect property owner's stands on the OPALCO project. The question proposed will be a FOR or AGAINST question. We will then be able to take this data to the county and to the OPALCO Board of Directors. If you are a property owner, please anticipate an email with the survey link. We encourage everyone to make their opinions known about the proposal that is headed to San Juan County for permitting.

Infrastructure Committee
With the survey results indicating that roads (dust, maintenance) are a priority, DIA created an Infrastructure Committee. This committee will liaison with San Juan County Public Works to determine what funding is designated for work on Decatur, scheduling of that work, processes and resources. If you would like to help on that committee, please email info@decaturislandalliance.org and we’ll get you onboarded!

Emergency Response Forum & Chili Cookoff
We are turning up the heat at our November meeting! We are going to have a chili cook-off while we discuss the state of emergency response on Decatur.  Bring your favorite pot of chili to share with your neighbors. Cheese, onions, and sour cream will be provided, as well as bowls and utensils. While we enjoy a cozy lunch, we will start the dialogue around emergency response.

Winter Community Events
DIA will be participating in both the DNW and All-Island Christmas markets the weekend after Thanksgiving. We will also be hosting a Boxing Day Bonfire on December 26 at Howell Stewart Park. DIA is also working with the San Juan County Health Department to provide a free workshop to Decatur Island about Brain Health. The date for that will be in February or March.

Community Board
Construction is slated to begin in November on the Community Board. If you are interested in helping with this effort, please email info@decaturislandalliance.org.

Decatur Island Cookbook
We are looking for volunteers who would like to create a Decatur Island Cookbook, with recipes from all of our neighbors! We need artists, photographers, recipes, and anyone who would be interested in helping us get this published in time for next summer! Please email info@decaturislandalliance.org if you would like to help!
